Wild Mushrooms
Introduction
We collect a wide range of wild mushrooms which we sell at our farmers market stalls.
The mushrooms are collected from woodlands and open spaces along the Essex - Suffolk border. Most of the woodland is oak with chestnut coppice. The open spaces are a mixture of parklands, heaths and commons. The timing and range of wild mushrooms varies from year to year, but most years we will have:
- chicken of the woods in August or September
- parasols from August to November
- beefsteak in September and October
- honey fungus in October
- blewits in November and December
Although many wild mushrooms are edible and delicious, some are poisonous or even deadly.
Individual reaction to any food can vary, even to well recognised edibles.
DO NOT EAT ANY WILD MUSHROOM WITHOUT EXPERT OPINION ON IT'S EDIBILITY
