Wild Mushrooms

BullockWood basket.JPG

These pages are a guide to wild mushrooms in Great Britain and in particular in East Anglia. The intention is to introduce you to the main types of fungi found in Great Britain with an emphasis on edible species. It is not a comprehensive guide. There are about 4000 species of fungi in Great Britain visible with the naked eye. Completist should check with field guides, seek the advice of an expert or go on a local Mushroom Foray.

WARNING

Never ever consider eating a wild mushroom until you are certain you have identified it correctly. Check in field guides, ask an expert, think about it. Get to know the mushroom through all it’s growth stages. It can take several seasons.

Always follow the foragers golden rule – If in doubt, throw it out.
