wild mushrooms listed by their scientific name
followed by their common English name. It should be noted that, unlike
animals and plants, not all fungi have a common name.

image of that mushroom.
Some common names refer to more than one mushroom and some
mushrooms have many common names. Always check the
scientific name when comparing information from other sources.

Although many wild mushrooms are edible and delicious, some are poisonous or even deadly. Individual reaction to any food can vary, even to well recognised edibles. The illustrations of wild mushrooms in these galleries are not intended as a guide to edible mushrooms but rather to show the range of mushrooms found in Essex and Suffolk.
